Beijing Subway Line 2: Fuxingmen Station to Reconstructed

From December 20, 2007, the Fuxingmen Station of the Subway Line 2 will be reconstructed. During the construction, the Entrance A (the northwest entrance) will be closed and the Fuxingmen Station will be in normal service. Passengers will have to go into or out of the station from other entrances and exits.

Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway: Main Project Completed

On December 16, 2007, the main project of the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway was completed.

Starting construction on July, 2005, Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway will be in service before the Beijing Olympics. It starts at Beijing South Railway Station and ends at Tianjin Railway Station, with only five stops. After the construction, trains on this line will travel every three minutes, transporting 18,000 people per hour. Hopefully, it will only take 30 minutes to cover the distance.

Beijing Improving Tourist Environment

The government of Beijing has invested 75.71 million to improve the tourist environment of the city. Signboards have been renewed and barrier-free facilities have been constructed for the disabled.

About 13,905 various signboards of over sixty tourist attractions have been renewed and they are made by the international standard. In the Summer Palace, now the signboards are written in standard Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean. Besides, the designs of the signboard are in perfect arrangement with the attractions. The signboards in the Zizhuyuan Park are made in the shape of bamboo, and those in the Simatai Great Wall resemble bricks.

In the Old Summer Palace, Central Television, Summer Palace, Jietai Temple and some other attractions, barrier-free facilities have been set up for the disabled. In the Temple of Heaven, there are instruction plates written in Braille. Barrier-free sidewalks and hand rails in many scenic spots are built for the disabled.

Multilingual Electronic Guides are seen in thirsty-five tourist resorts of Beijing, providing service in twenty-two languages. In the 2008 Olympics, there will be 30,000 electronic guides in Beijing, serving in forty-four languages at most.

Dongzhimen Subway Station to Closed for Reconstruction

From December 16, 2007 to January 9, 2008, the Dongzhimen Subway Station of Beijing Subway Line 2 will be completely closed for reconstruction. Trains of the Subway Line 2 will not stop in this station and passengers can not transfer to the Subway Line 13 there.

People in the Dongzhimen (东直门) Station can take a bus to the Yonghegong Station (雍和宫) or the Dongsishitiao Station (东四十条) to take the metro of this subway line. For more information, you can inquiry the service number of the Beijing Subway Co. Ltd: 010-68275087

Besides, public buses which travel through Dongzhimen will fill the requirements. The departure intervals will be shortened and more buses will be in service.

Beijing: 27 Bus Routes Temporarily Adjusted this Weekend

On December 15th and 16th, the '2007 ITTF Pro-TOUR Grand Finals' will be held in Peking University Gymnasium. To ensure a smooth going of the events, 27 public bus routes will not stop at Zhongguanyuan Stop and Zhongguanyuan Beizhan Stop during 17:30-19:30 of the two days.

Public buses passing through the Zhongguanyuan (中关园) Stop:
No.307, 320, 355, 365, 498, 681, 696, 697, 699, 717, 731, 801, 814, 826, 982, Te 4 (特4), Te 6 (特6), Yuntong 105 (运通105), Yuntong 110 (运通110), Yuntong 205 (运通205).

Public buses passing through the Zhongguanyuan Beizhan (中关园北站) Stop:
No.319, 331, 365, 375, 438, 498, 628, 656, 681, 717, 743, 801, 814, 826, 982, Te 4 (特4), Te 6 (特6), Yuntong 105 (运通105), Yuntong 205 (运通205).

The above-mentioned south-bound buses will not stop at the two stops.

Beijing Yangge Team to Perform in Finland

According to the Xuanwu District Government, a yangge team of 32 people will be invited to perform in three cities of Finland during the Chinese Spring Festival.

The performance will last for about five days and on the eve of the Chinese New Year of 2008 (February 6, 2008), the yangge team will have wonderful show in Helsinki. Having staged in Australia, South Korean and Egypt, they will bring the Chinese traditional art to the oversea country once again. Besides, the Chinese Kungfu and lion dancing performances will add to the celebratory and festival atmosphere.
