Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway: Track Laying Starts

It is reported that the track laying on the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway started in Tianjin on November 13th, and the track laying for Beijing section will begin in December, 2007.

Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway is the first light rail in China which admits a highest speed of 350 kilometers (217.5 miles) per hour. Covering a distance of about 115 kilometers (71.5 miles), the rail starts at Beijing South Railway Station and ends at Tianjin Railway Station. It is expected that the rail will be in operation before the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Fourth 'Beijing Olympic Gold' Issued

On November 8th, the fourth 'Beijing Olympic Gold' was issued in Beijing with a limitation of 2,008 kilograms (4,426.88 pounds).

The 'Beijing Olympic Gold' is the first memorial gold in the world featuring the Olympic Games. Each set consists of five golden bars of the same size, which can form a completed dragon with the shape of '2008'. The first memorial gold was issued in 2005, and the last will be presented to the public in May, 2008.

The fourth memorial gold is engraved with dragon tails. There are 50-gram (1.76 ounces), 100-gram (3.53 ounces), 500-gram (17.64 ounces), and 1,000-gram (35. 27 ounces) golden bars.

People can buy the 'Beijing Olympic Gold' in the outlets of the Bank of China. It is said that the first three memorial gold have been sold out.

180 Performances to Exhibited in National Grand Theater

The National Grand Theater will start its international opening performance season on December 22, 2007, marking the theater's formal opening up to the public.

The performances season will last until April 6, 2008, and during this period, 180 performances will be on show in the theater. Among them, about 67 percents are domestic performances, and the others are foreign shows. The performances include opera, dance, concert, drama, and many other art performances. In particular, the concert on December 22nd will be the opening ceremony, and many Chinese musicians will offer excellent performances on the occasion.

Most of tickets for the performances will be lower than that of the other theaters in Beijing, and the ticket prices will only be CNY 30 at its lowest.

Transportation:
Subway: Line 1 to Tiananmen West (天安门西), and get out of the subway station from the Exit C, then walk southwestwards to the National Grand Theater (国家大剧院).
Public Bus: No.1, 4, 5, 10, 22, 37, 52, 205, 728 to Tiananmen Xi (天安门西), then walk southwestwards to the National Grand Theater.

Beijing: Mei Lanfang Grand Theater to Present First Performance

Mei Lanfang Grand Theater, named after Mei Lanfang-a famous master of Beijing Opera, will present the first performance on November 28th after its completion.

With an admission of 1,000 person, the theater is located in the southeast to the junction of Xi Erhuan Lu (西二环路) and Ping'anli Xidajie (平安里西大街). As a theater featuring the Beijing Opera, Mei Lanfang Grand Theater will be a cultural landscape of the capital.

Transportation:
Subway: Line 2 to Chegongzhuang (车公庄) Station, and then walk to Mei Lanfang Grand Theater (梅兰芳大剧院).
Bus Route:
No.107, 118, 701 to Chegongzhuang Dong (车公庄东), and then walk to the theater.
No.50, 209, 375, 392, 438, 604, 632, 650, 693, 743, Yuntong 106 (运通106) to Chegongzhuang Bei (车公庄北), and then walk to the theater.

Beijing: Ninth World Wushu Championships to Held on November 11th

From November 11th to 17th, the Ninth World Wushu Championships will be held in Beijing Olympic Sports Center Stadium.

The world championships include about 40 games, including free hand operations, routines, swordplay and boxing. More than 1,000 athletes, coaches and referees from 88 countries and regions will participate in the events. In order to make the competitions more attractive, strict musical accompaniment will be introduced in the Tai Chi Chuan and Tai Chi Sword.

This world champions consist 17 competitions with over 3,000 tickets for each of the competition, and people can buy the tickets in the Olympic Sports Center Stadium. As the qualifying competition of the Beijing Olympics, the winners of this champion will have the chance to take part in the 2008 Olympics.

Beijing Olympic Badges Issued Today

It is reported that the 2008 Beijing Olympic badges have been issued today with the authorization of the BOCOG (Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games).

The Olympic badges fall into seven kinds, including 6.25-gram (0.22 ounce) golden badges, 10-gram (0.35 ounce) silver badges, 10-gram (0.35 ounce) silver with 1-gram (0.035 ounce) golden badges, and 50-gram (1.76 ounces) silver with 2.5-gram (0.088 ounce) golden badges.

The front sides of these badges are engraved with the 2008 Olympic emblem, the design of the national stadium, and the Chinese characters of 'Beijing Olympics' and 'the 29th Olympic Badge'. The back side of each badge features one of the sixteen famous attractions of Beijing, symbolizing people's good wish for the Beijing Olympics.

Under special license from the government, these badges have certificates and security labels and are sold with a limitation. People can buy the badges in the Olympic shops.
