We will go to Beijing in April 2012 and plan to visit Mutianyu Great Wall. How do we go there from our hotel at Beijing Badaling Hotspring Resort?

Hi Lhen,
your hotel and Mutianyu Great Wall are in two suburban district of Beijing, and they are quite far from each other, and no direct buses or trains between them.
i suggest you rent a car or book a one-day tour to Mutianyu Great Wall and have the travel agency pick you up in your hotel.
here you can book an one-day tour to Mutianyu:

Bus No. 867 usually serves from late March to November 15th.

For information the direct bus 936 at dongzhimen is open only from the 15 of march to the 15 of november. In other case you have to take the bus 916 (11 yuan) and then the taxi or private car or minibus around 30 yuan

You have to take a taxi to Deshengmen first, and then transfer to Bus no. 919 to Badaling.

Hi Luke,
Bus No. 867 is still running, and the earliest one departs at 07:00 from Dongzhimen station.

Hi will be visiting Badaling & Jinshanling in mid december, may i know the directions to get there by bus if i stay near dongzhimen? if via cab how much will it cost?

Abby :11/27/2011 6:03:54 PM

Badaling and Jinshanling are not in the same direction, so i think you need at least two days for both of them. there are buses from Dongzhimen to Jinshanling, but you need to take bus No. 909 to Deshengmen and take bus No. 919 to Badaling.
it will be very expensive if you go by cab.

Can you please confirm that the 867 bus operates over the weekend in the month of November 2011 and does it take you direct to the Mutianyu cable car station? If not, can you please advise the exact stop at Mutianyu. And the exact location at Mutianyu for us to board the bus back to Dongzhimen Thank you.

Bus No. 867 will arrive outside the entrance of Mutianyu. You can still take the same bus back to Dongzhimen from Mutianyu.

Hi, I will be going November 9th (tomorrow) or 10th.

You said that the bus departs from Dongzhimen at 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. What time does the bus (867) LEAVE FROM Mutianyu?

Also - are there other options for going on a weekday? My hotel is not too far from Tiananmen.

Lastly - what are some differences between Badaling and Mutianyu?

Thanks for your help.

Bus No. 876 leave from Mutianyu back to Beijing city at 14:00 and 16:00.
you can also take bus No. 916 and then a small bus to Mutianyu.
there are less tourists in Mutianyu Great Wall than Badaling.

Will special tourist bus 867 be available November 6, 7 or 8? I don't speak Mandarin Chinese. How do I ask for this bus at the long distance bus station? Do the ticket people speak English?

Beijing Bus 867 operates all year round. There will be the No. 867 at the front of the bus, so please don't worry.

I want to visit the Mutianyu Great Wall on Sep 16. Please let me know the cheapest transport from Beijing. What will be the total cost. I will be staying close to Tianamen Square.

from Tiananmen Square, you can take the subway line 1 to Jianguomen station, then subway line 2 to Dongzhimen station. Exit from Exit H and walk eastward along the Dongzhimenwai Street from about 260 meters, turn left to the Dongzhimenwai Xiejie, and walk for about 240 meters, you can find the Dongzhimen Long-distance Bus Station, from there you can take the 867 Tourist Special Bus (936) directly to Mutianyu Great Wall. the bus departs at 07:00 and 08:30. if you can not catch the tourist bus, you can exit from exit H of dongzhimen Subway station, and take Bus No. 916 to Huairou North Avenue and take a taxi to Mutianyu.

I will be in Beijing from 10 to 14 Nov 2011. Is the 867 bus that goes directly to Mutianyu Great Wall still operating?

I heard that the bus will stop operation during the winter months. When will the bus stop operation?

Bus No.867 is only available from March 15th to November 25th.

How long is the journey for 867 Tourist Special Bus (936) directly to Mutianyu Great Wall and Bus No. 916 to Huairou North Avenue (怀柔北大街) and take a taxi to Mutianyu?
What is the price different?

Hi Cindy,
bus no. 867 only departs at 07:00 and 08:00 in the morning, and it takes about 2.5 hours on the way, and the fare is less than CNY 16.
if you take the bus No. 916 and take a taxi, you will get to Mutianyu in only 1.,5 hours, but the total fare is around CNY 30.

Hi !
I am going to Beijing during national days and I'd like to go to Mutianyu by bus. Is there a way to book the tickets in advance ? I am afraid there will be too many people...

hi Julia,
it is not available to book the ticket in advance.
you'd better get up early in the morning.

It's about three days now that I am doing a research on which bus to take at Dongzhimen Bus Station that will take the passengers directly to Mutianyu Great Wall Gate. Can anyone kindly confirm if it's still the same 936 bus or is it using number 867 now? Im afraid that the chinese websites i checked is not updated so it will be better to hear it from the latest first hand experience. Thanks so much in advance.

Calvin ( Singapore ) :9/29/2011 2:48:27 AM

Hi EM,

Could you confirm that Bus 936 has changed to 867 directly to Mutianyu? I'll be in Beijing on 26Oct2011.

If I take subway to Dongzhimen, which exit is the nearest to this Bus stop?

Is there are bus schedule for this 867 Bus?

Blaire :9/26/2011 7:14:24 PM

hi Em,
tourism bus No. 936 was changed to No. 867. you can take bus No. 867 to Mutianyu directly.

I've heard that the bus 916 on his way from the airport to Dongzhimmen stops in Wangging area (Lido). Does anyone know ? Where and when

Mark :9/19/2011 6:21:34 PM

Firstly, Bus No. 916 doesn't run between the airport and Dongzhimen, but between Huairou bus station and Dongzhimen. Secondly, please confirm 'Wangging Area'?

I intend to visit Mutianyu between Oct 27 to Nov 4. May I know if there is direct bus leaving from Tiananmen or I have to go another place to take.

Would prefer direct bus.

Also, once reach Mutianyu. What is the distance to walk up to the top spot? How long to walk up for a normal non athlete adult.

Lyla :9/13/2011 12:01:26 AM

for direct bus, you can take the bus beside the Arrow tower near Qianmen Subway Station, which is the package tour to Mutianyu. more information you can find on this page:
the Great Wall is very long and usually on one will finish the whole section. it takes about 3 hours to tour about this section.

after you exit from Exit H of Dongzhimen Suwbay station, you can find the bus stop about 150 meters west of you.

visited this part of the great wall a week ago!
you can take a ski lift-like thing up to the wall, but we had to WALK. it is a LOT of stairs. on the way you can take an individual toboggon which goes down a long metal slide to the bottom for CNY50. It's definitely worth it!
