I am going to Beijing this weekend. I'm a solo traveler, and I'd like to visit the Mutianyu section of the GW. Is it possible to use public transportation to get there? There is a lot of conflicting information online about reaching Mutianyu in winter by public bus. Any information is appreciated.

You should note that No.867 Tourist Special Line from Dongzhimen Outer (Dongzhimenwai) to Mutianyu has been cancelled. Visitors need to take no. 867 bus that departs at 10:00 and 12:00 and get off at Mutianyuhuandao. Then they need to walk around 3 minutes to find the ticket office of the Great Wall ahead. And this bus will be in operation on Dec. 8.

How long does the tram ride take? I am traveling with a person who has a problem with heights.

about 4 minutes. it is quite short.

Hi, I have a few questions as below:-
1. what time is the first bus to Mutianyu from Dongzhimen on 28 Sept?
2. Is the bus stop at Dongzhimen still at Exit H?
3. Where does the bus stops at Mutianyu and how far is it from the main entrance?
4. How do I take the bus back to Beijing and what is the bus interval frequency? What time is the last bus to beijing?

THANK YOU!

1. the first bus departs from Dongzhimen at 07:00 and the second (last) departs at 08:30.
2. no, the bus stops at Dongzhimen Wai. from Exit H, you walk east along the road for about 260 meters and turn left onto Dongzhimen Wai Street. Then move northward for another 300 meters, wil find the bus stop.
3. the bus stops at the parking lot, just outside of the ticket office.
4. the two buses back to Beijing depart from Mutianyun at 14:00 and 16:00.

On February 17th 2013 the bus line 867 to Mutianyu is working? How much is it?

Otherwise how much is to hire a mini bus from Huairu to Mutianyu?

doris :2/16/2013 12:32:15 AM

no, bus 867 is only on operation from late March to November 15th every year.
the cost for a mini bus is about CNY 100 per cab, you can share a bus with other visitors to save money.

Hi, I want to visit Mutianyu between Feb 13 - 16th 2013. I have read the information provided by others and find it very useful, "thanks for taking the time to post", but was just wondering if anyone has any further information for travelling at this time.

Thank you Emily.

Emily ( China ) :1/8/2013 5:35:46 PM

it would be very cold at the site, take enough food and water with you. you'd better not to go there if heavy snow blocks the highway leading to the great wall.
Have a nice trip!

Will there be buses or trains running in early march during the week? we are trying to get to Mutianyu Great Wall from central Beijing

Yes, from the city, you may take a bus or subway to Dongzhimen Bus Station, change to No. 916 or 916快 (express line) to Huairou Bus Station first, get off at Qingchun Lu Beikou, Huairou Bei Dajie or the terminus and then hire a mini-bus to Mutianyu.

Will Bus No. 867 from Dongzhimen to Mutianyu Great Wall be operating on

November 9, 2012
November 10, 2012
November 11, 2012

Also, where would I purchase tickets for the bus ride to Great Wall Mutianyu? I read somewhere that the bus ticket is purchased on the bus as soon as it starts, is this correct?

And are there signs at the Dongzhimen Station directing people to bus 867 to Mutianyu?

Thank you.

yes, the bus No. 867 runs on the above mentioned dates.
yes, it is correct that the ticket is purchased on the bus as soon as it starts.
there are no signs, but the station is not far from the Dongzhimen Subway Station.
exit from Exit C or H and walk west along the Dongzhimen Street for about 300 meters, turn left to the Dongzhimen Wai Xiejie and walk northward for about 300 meters, you will find the bus station.

hi my family and i will be going to beijing on nov 26-30, we plan to go to mutianyu and i read that we can only do is to take Bus No. 916 from Dongzhimen to Huairou Conference Center, and then take a mini bus to the Mutianyu Great Wall. will there always be a mini bus at the huairou conference center? and how much will it cost? then how are we going back to Dongzhimen station from mutianyu?

isn't it that bus No. 867 (936) from Dongzhimen to Mutianyu Great Wall is only available from late march to nov 15th? we are going on nov 28. ?

Anne :9/15/2012 1:59:08 AM

why not take the tourist bus No. 867 (936) from Dongzhimen to Mutianyu Great Wall directly?

Hi. I am Gina Sales and will be travelling to bejing with my husband and three kids aged 9,7 and 5. I would like to let my kids experience the train ride so we plan to take the train going to mutianyu. I believe we have to stop at huairou. if we get off from huairou, is it difficult to get taxi service to mutianyu? how much should we expect to be charged for the fare and are taxi fares charged per person and not per vehicle? We eould very much appreciate your reply. Thank you very much.

Ray :8/7/2012 6:26:57 PM

yes, you have to get off at Huairou, but remember to take the train to Huairou North station which are closer to Mutianyu than Huairou station.
the taxi fare is around CNY 90 per vehicle.

Could you tell me if the Mutianyu Great Wall trip will be running on any of these dates:

Monday 13th August
Tuesday 14th August
Wednesday 15th August
Thursday 16th August

What time does the bus leave Mutianyu back to Beijing and are there any other stops along the way?

Do you have to stay as a group at Mutianyu or can you do your own thing during this time?

the tourist bus No. 867 runs every day from Dongzhimen Station. it leaves the city at 07:00 and 08:30 and gets back from Mutianyu Great Wall at 14:00 and 16:00. there are other stops as it is a public bus. you do not need to stay as a group.if you are talking about the tourist bus of the Beijing Hub of Tour Dispatch, the tour to Mutianyu is only available on the weekends and Chinese legal holidays from April 7 to October 15, the dates you mentioned are not included. you will have a tour guide and visit the scenic area as a tour group if you take the tour of Beijing Hub of Tour Dispatch.

Hi,
Which entrance should I exit from Dongzhimen Staion and which direction from this exit to the bus stop for bus no.867?
Thanks

Exit from Exit H and walk eastward along the Dongzhimenwai Street for about 250 meters, turn left to Dongzhimenwai Xiejie. go down the street for about 230 meters and take the left road, and you will find the the bus station about 100 meters away.

If you take the tram up the Great wall, how do you get down?
We are coming on July 1 and 2, 2012

of course you can take the tramp down or walk down :)

My wife and I decided to go on a Friday to lessen how many tourists would be there. We were first in line to catch the 7:00AM 936 bus (This bus stop is outside of the DongZhimen Station and next to the park which is across the street from the Oakwood Residence Apartments), but were directed to get on the 867 bus (the bus stop right next to 936). The bus ride there and back took a little over 2 hours (because of traffic). Hiring a driver is way more expensive and takes away from the experience; unless you really don't have the time to waste on the drive and have the money to hire one. Once there, we were discouraged by the bus driver's assistant to walk up by being told it would take an hour and a half to walk up to the wall . . . NOT TRUE. We agree that the bus driver/assistant probably get a "kick-back" for getting tourists to ride the cable car up to the wall. My wife and I walked into the park's Northern entrance and it only took about twenty minutes (with a couple stops to take pictures and quick breaks) to walk up the stairs to the 8th Tower. There are rest stops on the way, but the stairs are very doable if you are an able bodied person. Once at the wall, we had plenty of time to explore the wall and towers before the rush of tourists from other bus tours. We brought our own food and had lunch on the wall. It was a beautiful morning and the sun was out. We used great advise and brought plenty of water. We had more than enough time to get back down, look around the souvenir shops, and catch the 2:00PM 867 back to DongZhimen. A lot of people started to flood the bus stop (same place where the bus dropped us off) at 1:50PM. Once the bus arrived, there was plenty of pushing and shoving to get on the bus to get a seat. I will never fully understand why forming a line is such a foreign concept to the chinese. All in all, it was a great experience. If we walked the whole length of The Wall and explored more, we would have caught the 4:00PM 867 back to DongZhimen. If you miss those buses, there are guys driving mini buses (which are vans) who will drive you down to the nearest town to catch a bus (probably the 867 or 916) for a fee. We were back at the bus station around 4:30PM.

Hello,

What are the hours at Mutianyu? I read some blogs with different information on doors opening and closing time (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily; 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM daily; and 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily from April to October). Which is correct? Thanks!

Hi Tom, the Mutianyun Great Wall opens at 08:00 in the morning and the last visitors should start to leave at 16:00 in the afternoon.

Hi there, I would like to visit Mutianyu On April 2nd, 2012, can you tell me if the direct bus 867 from dongzhimen is running right now?

Reply3/31/2012 7:26:40 AMRaychelle ,   United States

Tina :3/31/2012 7:26:31 PM

yes, it runs at that time. and the bus departs at 07:00 and 08:30 from Dongzhimen.

My wife is disabled and can only walk short distances (20 meters or so) and uses a wheelchair. Is the tram only a short walk from where she could be dropped of by car and will the tram accomodate wheelchairs?

cable car is not from the entrance of the Mutianyu Great Wall.
but i heard you go up in a cable car but get down on a pully which is not an inclosed box.

Hi I'm going to mutianyu in early apr. Is there a way to get to the ming tombs from mutianyu? thanks

Reply3/18/2012 8:30:06 AMsarah ,   Singapore

Hank :3/18/2012 8:08:03 PM

Mutianyu is far away from the Ming Tombs. No direct transportation between them. If you use the public buses, you may have to make three transfers. If you do plan to visit the two places in one day, you'd better hire a car.

Sorry, I meant bus 867 from Dongzhimen to Mutianyu :)

The reason I am asking is because there are conflicting answers about whether this bus operates year-round, or only begin in mid-March. Thanks!

Do you mean the transport from Wangfujing to Mutianyan? You may take Beijing subwya line 1 from Wangfujing to Jianguomen, transfer to subway line 2 to Donzhimen , and then take bus No. 867 or p16 to Mutianyu.

I would like to take the tourist bus 876 from Dongzhimen to Mutuanyu on 2 or 3 March. Is this bus service operating on those dates, please? How long does it take to get there by this bus? Thank you.
