Comments and Questions

Hi Guys, The assistance on this site is great. I intend staying at The Astor House Hotel in Shanghai for my first night in China.I am wondering if I could get a train ticket at the hotel, but all emails are bouncing back, and phone calls not going through.
Is the Shanghai Hoaqdoai railway near the international Pudong airport,as I may try there for the ticket

I am hoping to do Sep 10 Beijing-Shanghai on the G13 bullet train.

All assistance greatly appreciated.

John

you can contact them through the means on this page:

Are the D trains presently running from Beijing to Beidaihe? The train schedule has them printed, but I've also read they are under renovation and/or only run in the summer.

The information is confusing and contradictory for this case: at least 2 stations are listed her with departures for Mongolia. Which station IS the one for the Mongolia to Russia trains and the southern end of Trans-Siberian express? I arrive Beijing from Shanghai, do I change stations to catch Mongolia train? What is best way to get from one to the other? Thank you, this is important! Peter

Hi Peter,
the train for Mongolia and Russia departs from Beijing Railway station.
you may arrive at Beijing Railway Station or Beijing South railway station from Shanghai (depending on which train you are going to take).
if you arrive in Beijing Railway station, you don't need to change a station, but if you arrive at Beijing South Railway station, you can take subway line 4 to xuanwumen station, and then line 2 to Beijing Railway Station. or bus No. 20 from the Beijing south to Beijing railway station.

I think it is economical and comfortable from Beijing to Chongqing by train. It takes about 90 minutes from Beijing capital airport to Beijing West Railway station where there are trains to Chongqing.

I will arrive at Beiging International Airport and need to get to South Station for a bullet train to Jinan. What is the best approach? How far is the station from the airport? Can I take a taxi and at what cost?

the fastest way is to take subway. you can take subway airport express line to Dongzhimen station, and line 2 to Xuanwumen station, and line 4 to Beijing South Railway station. it takes 1.5 hours. the fare is CNY 27 per person.
you may encounter a traffic jam if you take a taxi or airport bus.
if there is no traffic jam, it takes about 40 minutes by taxi, and the fare is around CNY 120.

It costs about CNY50 by taxi. If you won't travel during any national holiday, I think it's ok to buy the ticket on arrival. The ticket fare is CNY38 for second class and CNY 45 for first class.

Hi Kate,
the trains from Wuhan to Beijing arrive at Beijing West railway Station, which is not close to the airport, but there is airport shuttle bus at Bejing West Railway Station connecting to the Capital International Airport.
Only train No. T14/T11 departing from Wuchang arrives at Beijing North, which is still far but closer than the west station to the airport.

you may have a short visit to Qianmen street, and then walk to through the Tiananmen square to the Forbidden city.
