Speedy rail links between central Beijing and the city suburbs are being developed rapidly, and it is now possible to reach the countryside and many tourist attractions that surround the city with ease and in comfort. The Tourist Train has the advantage of being fast, inexpensive and efficient, taking you directly to the desired tourist attractions. By making full use of the extensive railroad resources that surround Beijing, this is an environmentally friendly mode of suburban transport.

Another very important benefit is free travel if you purchase your admission tickets for the attractions prior to setting out on your trip. As for admission tickets for the scenic spots, 20 visitors or more can enjoy a preferential group price: one free ticket is granted to a group of 20. For larger groups a free ticket is granted for each additional group of 10 people. Passengers who buy their admission tickets for the scenic spots at the authorized ticket offices can take the Tourist Trains departing from Beijing Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station and Beijing South Railway Station for free. Depending upon your train number, you can also take the Tourist Train at Pingguoyuan and Qinghuayuan subway stations.

Without admission tickets for the scenic spots, You can purchase the train ticket on that day or in advance in Beijing Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station and Beijing South Railway Station. You could also buy the train tickets after getting on the trains. If you are a group of 10 or more tourists, you can buy the tickets by telephone 3 to 10 days ahead of time and enjoy the visiting service. The ticket booking hot line: 010-65636733.

There are set times for Tourist Train departures from each railway station in Beijing every day. Train tickets can be purchased in Beijing Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station and other ticket offices authorized by the Ministry of Railways. In summer, there are always temporary Tourist Trains in service to meet the demand.

Hi Johnny,
there are many ancient village in Beijing's suburban, such as Qianjuntai, Yanhecheng, Liuyiqu, and Donghulin.
i think you can hire a local driver and drive you around.

At Badaling train station, is there a taxi from the station to the entrance of the great wall site? If not, what is the walking like? We will be there in February, in the COLD season. If we take a train to Badaling section of the great wall, will it be hard to walk to the entrance or is there a taxi we can get for that part of it. Thanks

Every ticket window sell all the train tickets, so you can buy the tickets at any window. You have to check and fix your train No. first.

there's no direct train from Beijing North railway station to Mutianyu Great Wall.
you can go to Tiananmen Square or Xuanwumen Dispatch Centers to take the tourism buses. the buses usually depart in the early morning and get back to the city in the afternoon.
you may refer to the following page: http://www.beijingtrip.com/transport/sightseeing-bus.htm

Yes. The No.Y563 train is one the six trains from Beijing North to Badaling. I have provided you the schedule of trains from Badaling to Beijing North (the return trains schedule you wanted). It got them from the latest train schedule. The Badaling Station is several kilometers away from the Great Wall, you can walk there or by taxi.
