Speedy rail links between central Beijing and the city suburbs are being developed rapidly, and it is now possible to reach the countryside and many tourist attractions that surround the city with ease and in comfort. In the past it has been necessary to travel by road with inevitable delays due to traffic jams, especially at weekends and during holiday periods. Now it is possible to take the Tourist Train, which has the advantage of being fast, inexpensive and efficient, taking you directly to the desired tourist attractions.

Another very important benefit is free travel if you purchase your admission tickets for the attractions prior to setting out on your trip. Understandably, this innovation is proving very popular with local residents and visitors to Beijing alike. By making full use of the extensive railroad resources that surround Beijing, this is an environmentally friendly mode of suburban transport.
